
The Limon High School Badgers clinched their second consecutive state crown with a dominant 50-13 victory over Strasburg in the Colorado 1A Football Championship. The game, held at the ThunderBowl on the Colorado State University-Pueblo campus, was a display of Limon’s consistent excellence throughout the season.
On a cold and snowy day in Pueblo this Saturday it was a great environment. Highlights included:
- Jordan Rockwell’s Stellar Performance: Senior QB Jordan Rockwell led Limon with a remarkable all-around performance. He was responsible for four touchdowns, two rushing and two passing, earning him the title of the National Football Foundation’s Most Outstanding Player. Rockwell completed 11 of 14 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns, adding 20 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground.
- Team’s Offensive Prowess: Limon’s offense was unstoppable, tallying 398 total yards. This comprised 157 rushing yards and 241 passing yards. Senior Lohgan Bottjer contributed significantly, rushing for 70 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.
- Receiving Contributions: The receiving corps was led by seniors Lance Beedy and Keon Bandy. Beedy caught four passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns, while Bandy added 101 receiving yards on four catches.
- Defensive Strength: Limon’s defense was equally impressive, registering a total of 57 tackles and one sack. Senior Treyton Marx led with 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Keon Bandy shined on defense too, intercepting two passes.
- Limon’s Championship Pedigree: This victory marked Limon’s 22nd state football championship and fifth in the last six years, emphasizing the school’s rich football tradition. Coach Mike O’Dwyer’s leadership was pivotal in guiding the team to their last eight state football titles.
- Game-Changing Plays: Crucial moments included Rockwell’s fourth-down touchdown in the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the game, and a 35-yard scoring pass to Lance Beedy, extending the lead to 15-0.
- Limon’s Balanced Attack: The Badgers showcased a balanced offensive attack, with solid performances both in the air and on the ground, making it difficult for Strasburg to contain them.
- Strasburg’s Efforts: Despite the loss, Strasburg’s journey to the championship game was commendable, finishing the season with a 10-3 record.
